Compared to the first quarter of 2021, 3.1 million more people were employed in the first quarter of 2022. That is, between the two periods, there were 56.1 million employed people from 53 million employed Mexicans.
Growth in job creation was concentrated in commerce, with an increase of 893,000 employed persons, 586,000 in restaurant and accommodation services, 490,000 in various services and 407,000 in professional, financial and corporate services.
Of the population that had jobs, Ineghi indicated, 5 million expressed a need to work more hours. This is what is known as the unemployed population and represents 9% of the employed population. That is, a decrease of 4.8 percentage points compared to the first quarter of 2021.
The level of informality is preserved
In the first quarter of 2022, some 31 million people were employed in the informal sector; That is, in those economic units which do not provide them any kind of social security.
This figure represents 55.2% of the employed population and means an increase of 1.8 million people, or an increase of 0.1 percentage points, compared to the first quarter of 2021.
